Heptaphilia*

It's ages since I've meme-d, but having been tagged by Andrew, it seems like the thing to do. This one's simple: I need to list seven things I love. I'll skip the obvious family, friends, Captain Birdseye etc.:

  • A great cliffhanger.
  • Trying to stifle an attack of the giggles, then realising someone else has noticed and is now having the same problem.
  • When, without planning it, you hear the perfect song for that particular moment.
  • A turn of phrase that makes me want to cry. See: anything Stephen King's ever written.
  • A lover taking my hand in public.
  • The brief feeling, after successfully finishing something worrying, where it seems like I can do anything I put my mind to.
  • The sounds of the city in the evening sunlight.

I shall tag Jo, Paul and Mr Skuds, if they fancy taking part.

Two’s Company

After a few lovely dates, my 'mysteriously mysterious companion' and I have become a couple. I am a very happy and lucky person. Abi is all kinds of wonderful, and, amazingly, as big a fan of The West Wing as I am :-)

Curmudgeonly reporting

The One O'Clock news just claimed Thorntons are reporting 1 in 5 customers buying two of the same Valentine's gift, and putting different names on each. At the risk of embarrassing myself: there is no way this is true. Even if you accept the dubiously high number of affairs, there's no chance so many would have the sheer nerve to ask for that in a shop. And people really buy both1 the exact same present? Also, the staff are really collecting stats on this kind of thing? I can't find any references online and yes, I'm an optimist, but I don't believe it. It's got to be a massive misquotation.

  1. is there a male version of 'mistress'? 'Mister'? []
