Hi all,

As I've said before and has been explained before, the Oracle routine was simply reciting cards which had been seen. It's a while since I saw the show in Poole, so I can't recall the exact questions on the cards, but from my previous post they were : Name, Date of birth, question you wanted answered, and (on the reverse) fact about yourself.

As you can see Kaz, all the answers can be explained by these. You don't need to know where somebody is sitting, because if you have such concrete facts, the person is almost certain to own up. If they don't, you move on to the next one.

And if you've read the rest of this blog you'll find there are certain predictions made every night which always come true.

So we have a mix of knowing what is already there and some events which are likely to happen anyway.

Enough said.

Kaz, I assure you that the trivia has been written on the cards. Its a case of 'dual reality' - to rest of the audience (who dont even know that the cards ask for trivia) it looks like mindreading - to the people who wrote on the cards, it looks (at best) like he is guessing what they had written. But we know that he has already memorised a bunch of info from the cards (which in my mind, is the genuinely clever bit, getting it all right). When I first saw the show, one thing that stuck with me was how unsuprised the people seemed compared to how I'd have thought they would be. E.g. If I hadnt written on a card, and Derren started coming out with loads of info about me, I'd want to shout out "Whhhhaaat?!! How the hell did you know that? Whats going on?" But everyone seems pretty calm (impressed, but calm). An interesting thing happened at my show where he said "a woman in her early thirties, with a cat, name beginning with L". I was with a girl called Lisa, who matched this, but I know she hadnt filled out a card. He then said "a Lisa with a cat". Of course at this point Lisa put her hand up - much to my utter confusion as I knew that Derren couldnt possibly know anything about her. And he didnt! He had the wrong person - which he knew instantly when asking her if she was a gemini (gathered from writing the birth date on the card).

I agree with Spoonman. I went to see Derren at the Garrick Theatre last night (13/5/08) and I would like to know how he knew certain facts during the oracle routine. Surely the people who were identified couldn't have written these questions on the cards as it would be obvious to them that he had somehow read the cards? For example he knew that one woman was pregnant and that her first pet was called sid. He also knew that a guy's grandmother's middle name was Nesta. If these individuals had written this information down on cards then the other theories mentioned on this blog add up. If they did not then how can this be explained?

It's because I now remove and replace the lens cap unconsciously. But only 80% of the time. So I never notice myself doing it, and it always comes as a complete surprise when I can't see through the lens :-)

Me too :-) I wonder if Thingy and Whatsit will be in it. Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish. I always quite liked them.

Could be...but then I think I've seen every episode, and I don't remember any of it :-)

"To strengthen its scientific credentials, the Vatican is organising a conference next year to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of the author of the Origin of Species, Charles Darwin." - also quite funny..

Wow. That's about the least-revealing trailer in film history. Seriously.

But I guess that's what they were going for, so...

**runs off to watch 9 years' worth of X-Files episodes in one fell swoop**

I was obsessed with this show as a kid, but it's really been awhile. Gotta reacquaint myself with everything before the movie comes out! :)
