The BBC has video of monkeys helping serve customers in a Japanese restaurant. This is is excellent in many ways, but it’s still…not nice, really.

“Animal rights regulations mean the premises have been visited to ensure the creatures are not being mistreated.”

Wonder if this is where the expression “Working for peanuts” came from? Elephants maybe…

    “THEY TOOK OUR JOBS!”

(I don’t know why, but that’s what instantly came to mind.)

Can’t find any etymology for “working for peanuts”, but I’m not sure elephants would do well in restaurants. Hell, all they have to do is be in a room and people get uppity.

I think it’s ok if the monkeys are native. Foreign monkeys, though, that’s another matter.
