What’s with BBC News going all BNP over ‘foreign-born mothers’?! It was all over the Ten O’Clock News, too. It’s costing £200m a year more than a decade ago, apparently, and in 2006 over 20% of births were to ‘foreign-born mothers’. Oh no! How terrible! Let’s tell immigrants they can’t have children, or deny pregnant women visas, or something. It’s our NHS, we don’t want any dirty immigrants using it, especially to have evil immigrant babies.
The real story seems to be that the NHS isn’t coping as well as it should with high numbers of births. But the emphasis is on immigrants, and how evil they are for having children. Weird. Maybe it’ll make sense in the morning.

Hi, i dont think that its anything really bad thats being said. Its just stating that we are under strain because of the amount high amounts of people coming to live here.
I believe it says something like british women having children is down 44k and compared it to thrise of non bristish women giving birth has gon up 64k.
Nothing particularly sinister. ;0)
Yeah, I didn’t mean to sound quite so paranoid - problems of writing posts at 1 in the morning
I still don’t see why it was so heavily promoted and sensationalised, though - there must be any number of things putting strain on the NHS, and the immigrant emphasis just plays to prejudices.
I work in a London NHS GP Surgery - a lot of women come to this country, already heavily pregnant.. Probably hoping having a baby born here will give them more rights to stay here.. No wonder there’s a strain on the NHS…
There will at some point have to be a cut off point…
