Damaged trees in Stratford

November 7th, 2007 - 00:33 | 2 comments

A row of large riverside trees in the centre of Stratford have been blocked off since the floods in July, and last week a decision was finally made. Here’s how they used to look:

Lazy sunday afternoon

but now:

Chopped trees by the Avon

It’s sad - they were a major part of the view, and it’s not like they’re going to grow back :-( I guess it was the only way to make them safe, though. What with this and the RST being in bits, Stratford’s looking something of a mess at the moment.

Blimey I didn’t realise they were being that drastic about the RST!

Willows can re-shoot quite happily if pollarded/coppiced - so there might be hope for them yet, depending on what damage they suffered? I’m no arboriculturalist though =P

    Shut until 2010, now!

I’m glad there’s still hope for them - was concerned they might be as good as dead. Don’t know what the official damage description is; I’ll see whether the local paper can push aside articles by demented tories to actually report something…
