Anybody have experience with mindmapping apps / websites? I’ve always found mindmaps useful and am thinking I should be using them for essay planning / research. There are a huge number of possibilities listed on wikipedia…I like the idea of an online solution so I can quickly access it anywhere, and am currently looking at comapping.com and mindmeister.com. The former is nice and quick, if a little visually dull - sure, left->right might be easier to understand, but it’s not as exciting. The latter isn’t based around flash, hooks into twitter/skype, and generally feels and looks more web2.0-y (not that this means anything). I’ll give them both a try over the next few days - anything I should particularly be looking at? I’m really after the one that’s destined to be bought by Google…

There is another website that I’ve been using for 3 or 4 months: http://www.mindomo.com
In terms of functionality and the stuff you can do, it is the most complex out of all the web-based mindmapping apps that I have tried. Even if it’s in flash, it has a classic mind-mapping view, not left-to-right, and you can apply all kinds of styles, include images, notes, links, node relationships, etc. I also use mindmaps for organizing research and projects planning, and it has been quite useful…
Looks interesting, thanks - shall check it out.
Hi,
There are many web-based mapping tools. These are the ones I know of apart from those you mention: bubbl.us, glinkr.net, kayuda.com, mapio.com, mapul.com, mind42.com, mindomo.com, wisemapping.com, webofweb.net
You should try FreeMind, it’s free (oh, you guessed?) and pretty capable. It’s a desktop tool, not web based, though you can publish its mindmaps on websites with a Flash addon.
There’s a very focused website at http://www.mindmapsearch.org that has all the authority sites for mind mapping on it. I should mention that I’ve built the list, but it has no ads and I had suggestions for links from many well-known people in this field.
