This is one of the main reasons I dont like catholicism because it is contributing to HIV in the 3rd world. A little ironic that by being ‘pro-life’ and telling people not to wear condoms they are actually killing these people.

I disagree - not using contraception isn’t some weird arbitrary religious teaching, it stems directly from the Catholic idea of using things for their desired purpose as decreed by god (I think this is Aristotelian? I remember reading a fascinating blog post about it that I can’t find now - shall look it up if I get a chance). Sure, plenty of Catholics likely do practice safe sex - they’re not stupid. But there’s no way to do this and not be open to arguments that would have you logically reject most of your catholicism, which is why you’ll never find a priest advocating it.

I’m sure there are Catholics who practice safe sex. I’m sure there are church leaders who practice safe sex. I’m not sure a priest accepting that condoms are a force for good would be rejecting their entire belief system.
