Changing direction, or not

In the past few days I’ve felt like ditching my current computer-fixing lifestyle multiple times:

  • After seeing many pictures like this:
Mother of all libraries 13 by Underpuppy
I realised I definitely want to get a qualification in librarianship, then later run a small bookshop.
  • This morning I was in the offices of a web-design company as a volunteer for their eye-tracking research. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, and I decided it could be a very pleasant existence and wouldn’t take too much work on my part to achieve.
  • I came home and saw Photojojo’s link to George Lange’s flipbook. After watching it twice I immediately wanted to find a local portrait photographer who would take me on as an apprentice.

I’ll be 24 in a couple of months. I was hoping to have all this stuff figured out by now.

Perhaps if you visited us you might want to become an accountant??

    I think this unlikely :-)

hehe =) I used to see finding direction as seeing the paths, but came to realise that its about choosing one and heading off and experiencing that for a while :) You’ve done that with writing, but you’re feeling the pain of having to do something that you don’t enjoy, to support something which you do enjoy. Fixing pc’s is better than a lot of part time jobs. I thought you were intent on supporting your writing with something slightly closer to writing rather moving off in new directions, however if you wanted support in changing to a specific direction then you have mine wherever I am of use :)

That would actually be surprisingly early to figure it all out ;) My dad was a lecturer for several 30-40 year olds who still hadn’t decided on their careers!
I still have the feeling my true calling was to be shut away in a quiet lab/old-fashioned museum writing journal articles about obscure species of small furry things =P But sadly I’m not good enough at statistics to do a PhD =P

If you want to go in the books direction, my parents have both spent their lives in that area (as you know), and would be happy to offer advice =)
