This was harder than I expected. Here’s the trick: create a new text file in Notepad, and copy this into it:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Save the file as “Show Desktop.scf” (enter the quotes to force notepad to save it as an .scf), then drag it to the Quick Launch bar.

    THANK YOU. I’ve deleted this button a number of times by mistake. When I created the new “Desktop” button this time it kept coming up with a desktop page w/all my desktop items, instead of minimizing all windows like I wanted. You, fine person, have saved my day… and the 3 other days I’ve spent time on this nonsense. Thanks for taking time to do this.

    I copy paste this into notepad, then go to save it and it wont save as a .scf file…all I can change is the file type (which it only displays .txt and “all files”) and the encoding. any help?

    I think it’ll work if you put the name in quotes while saving: “Show Desktop.scf”.

    No worries. Is far from obvious - just a trick you have to happen to know. I’ll update the above with it.
