I had to laugh when I saw the headline "the sickness of secularism", after all society is plagued by secularists teaching children the earth is 6,000 years old (is that islamic, western or asian rationalism!), you know the rest blowing themselves and innocent others up and generally spreading hatred. Think this was an attempt to repackage cultural relativism - there's no such thing as truth, no culture or political idea is better than any other, science has no more claim to truth than our old friends "other ways of knowing" etc etc As for positivism, haven't they given up knocking down that poor old straw man yet! As for scientifc method, it always leaves open the possibility that theory should be challenged and if evidenced replaced/updated, whereas religion holds to the same beliefs no matter how many libraries of evidence are filled proving them to be wrong. I know what I prefer, and yes, it is "superior". Good grief if this lot were dominating the left 2 centuries ago women would have never got the vote because it would have been "wrong" to challenge and insult the prejudices of christian men who believed women were inferior .
