I wear a Star Trek Medical officers insignia badge on my nurse's uniform along with my hospital badge. It provokes conversation with staff and patients. Sister initially thought it was a religious cult badge and was going to ask me to remove it until I informed her what it was. As it is quite unoffensive and is not covered by hospital policy I cannot be asked to remove it. In terms of BA does their policy cover the wearing of this badge? Is it in breach of Health and Safety Legislation or anti-discriminatory law? Is it likely to offend anyone or prevent you from performing your job in a professional and efficient manner? I think if it were to go to a tribunal BA would have a difficult case to prove!!!!

@Iestyn Not sure which one of us has missed the point here. But I think one of us has missed the point. I don't think it's me.

Hi,
I'm sorry BA were so closed minded. I'm researching a documentary on Star Trek. Would you be willing to discuss your problems, and love of Star Trek, with us? If you're interested, you can email me on research@phoenixmedia.co.uk.
All the best,
Iestyn

[...] I’ve said before that this seems reasonable, not for reasons regarding public displays of faith but just in terms of doing your job properly. But then they say: The policy recognises that it is not practical for some religious symbols - such as turbans and hijabs - to be worn underneath the uniform. This is purely a question of practicality. There is no discrimination between faiths.[1] [...]

Star Trek is an interesting programme I wonder whether David "machine gun" Blunkett s a fan. Do you think they have an NHS as part of the federation or would that have been privatised by the Labour Party.I wonder if Blairs friend Rupert Murdoch would show the show on his Corporations anti union and anti NHS television services.

Our local primary has lots of rules for staff. Not showing midriffs or wearing low-waisted jeans which show off your thong, for example. The rules for women are even worse!

They also say you must not have tattoos visible and cannop wear any football colours or badges.

It raises a couple of questions:

1. Could I claim that supporting West Ham *is* a religious thing? It is certainly a penance.

2. Would a teacher who got a spider-web tattoo across their face be *forced* to wear a veil?
