The mysterious watersport is actually "kitesurfing", and is very popular around here, where we get plenty of wind but not the big waves you need for classic surfing. Given a strong enough breeze you can take of and fly a fair distance through the air, which looks like fun until you cross a beach, a field, and finally land on a railway line - which has happened more than once.
