Photo of Atlantis leaving the ISS

Holy crap, today’s Astronomy Picture of the Day is amazing. A ground-based observer managed to photograph the shuttle Atlantis leaving the ISS, which is impressive enough, but this was as they were passing in front of the sun! Full details on Bad Astronomy, where it says the sun transit would have lasted only a second.

The ISS is currently occupied by space tourist Anousheh Ansari, whose blog has quickly become the #1 read on wordpress.com. Unfortunately the ISS internet connection apparently isn’t up to blogging, although it can handle the odd email, so the title of first space blogger is still available.
