The one thing we don't need is the governing party disembowelling itself in public. And you're right to doubt the motives of Watson et al. It's got nothing to do with national interest and everything to do with hopping from one bandwagon to the next. This may be a profoundly unfashionable thing to say, but I think that Blair has been a reasonably successful PM and does deserve to leave Downing Street in a dignified manner. I agree. And I don't think we need to wonder if Matt Bellamy was talking about Tony Blair. There're plenty of lyrics on that album which are pretty in your face ...
