Drive-in Cinema

Channel 4 are offering free tickets for an honest-to-goodness drive-in, sound-via-the-radio cinema that’s touring the country. I’ve always wanted to visit one of those. They’re showing:

London, Gunnersbury Park - 15/16 July
Catch me if you can
Sideways

Birmingham, Weston Park - 22/23 July
The Shawshank Redemption
As Good As It Gets

Manchester, Arley Hall - 29/30 July
Pulp Fiction
Moulin Rouge

Brighton, Brighton Racecourse - 5/6 August
True Romance
American Beauty

Edinburgh, Hopetoun House - 12/13 August
The Usual Suspects
A Beautiful Mind

Unfortunately I’m away for the Birmingham screenings :-(

EEEP! Some of my all-time favorites are up there. Probably 5 out of my top 10 list. Very cool.

I’ve been to several drive-in movies, since they still exist out here in the fringes, but most of the movies that are shown at drive-ins here are crap. They usually end up at the drive-in after nobody will pay to see them anywhere else. They’re… like… crap. I can’t even give an example. They’re *that* forgettable.

To be fair, a lot of the people who go to the drive-in don’t watch the movies, anyhow.

I’m going to try to get to the Moulin Rouge screening - should be fun.

Ah yes, I once heard somebody blaming the lack of US-teens’ sexual knowledge on the decline of drive-in cinemas :-)

This Idea will get a ready support from the government but i need something more solid on ground.

The BBC World News just had a feature about drive-in cinemas in US - reporting that they start to grow business again gradually (sadly though there are only 400 left in all states) - and I was wondering if there is any drive-in cinema anywhere in Europe, any idea?
