I’ve got the BBC’s IDS coverage updating every minute through the excellent Avant browser. The BBC page is interesting in that journalists are posting quick snippets throughout the day, and it’s nice to see that they aren’t all as eloquent as in their full reports. When I’ve got time I often have to re-write sentences three or four times when posting to this blog, and it’s good to know that even professionals can’t always pluck interesting phrases out of the air at a moment’s notice.

I’ve been using Avant for a while now… but there are quite a few things that I miss from IE:
1. In IE, I have set-up a shortcut gg to search google really easily. It’s a pity that Avant doesn’t support it yet.
2. I’ve begun using Multiple Desktops… since my screen isn’t big enough, and Avant doesn’t quite support it (it lies at the bottom of each scren)
3. It doesn’t seem to cache quicktime movies properly. That’s probably a quicktime problem, though.
Given time, the features can be gleaned a bit to provide the specific part of the feature that you want. i.e. Refresh being a few hrs instead, or the address bar being longer, etc. etc
are you using the google toolbar? I swapped it with the default avant search bar as it’s more powerful. Not quite as convenient as gg, but nearly.
Ah, that must be a pain.
I’ve had trouble with quicktime not caching movies properly too, not sure what the cause is.
I get a problem with the text size reverting to ’smaller’…can’t figure that one out at all. And while I like the compatibility of it being an IE wrapper, it still doesn’t look as nice as Opera
Nah, it isn’t the google toolbar — it is a feature of TweakUI.
Nice. But i dont have a prob with IE

I must protest at the constant use of IDS acronym. Reason? I am on the IBM Integrated Degree Scheme. Making be an IDSer. And i feel the acronym is being dragged through the mud
it’s not that I don’t like IE, it’s just that tabbed browsing is one of those wonderful things that once you’ve had you can’t live without
that’s a really stupid phrase isn’t it…I would not in fact kill myself if I could not have tabbed browsing any more. It’s just nice.
ah well, give it a month and nobody will remember the other acronym. As long as you haven’t got another title as an MHer?
